I tried the localhost address in the file, and now run the winvnc.exe directly from the same folder as the modified helpdesk.txt (on the same machine) but no joy - still Server closed connection. I have no repeater set up, nor any activated plugin (checked when running the viewer normally). Hi, this is my first time asking a question on Spiceworks. I have a a DNS server that is running Server 2008 R2. I am trying to install a licence server and need internet connectivity. I tried to ping one of the other servers and got at 'PING: transmit failed. General failure.' However I can get a response from 127.0.0.1.
There are basically two ways to close a TCP connection between host A and B:. The proper way: A is sending a FIN, telling that it would not send new TCP segments anymore.

It will continue sending ACKs though. The connection is half closed and can stay like this forever. When B has finished sending data, he can close his part of the connection with a FIN too. When he has received the last ACK, the connection will be totally closed. For various reasons A can send a RST packet, telling that this connection is not taken into account. When receiving the RST message, B will stop the connection quite immediately.AFAIK, which host is the server or the client does not change the basics.
